For 1H ended 30 Sept 2020, Mapletree Logistics Trust, Mapletree Industrial Trust and Mapletree Commercial Trust averaged a DPU of 4.75 Singapore cents, down an average of 4.3% y-o-y. Mapletree Logistics Trust was the only trust that registered a y-o-y percentage increase in DPU – up 1.2% – for the period under review.

Among the 10 largest constituents of the FTSE ST Singapore Shariah Index, 3 are REITs – Mapletree Industrial Trust, Keppel DC REIT and Frasers Logistics & Commercial Trust. All 3 REITs have seen limited impact from COVID-19. The 3 REITs averaged total returns of 28% and received net institutional inflows of S$145 million in 2020 YTD till 21 October.
Of the 10 largest constituents of the FTSE ST China Index, 3 are Industrials stocks – Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, Hutchison Port Holdings Trust and Sunpower Group. These 3 Industrial stocks averaged total returns of 33% in 3Q2020 with Hutchison Port Holdings Trust as the top performer.
Over the first two weeks of 4Q20, STI Heavyweights DBS, OCBC and UOB were recipient to S$217 million in net institutional inflows, with the trio averaging 5% gains. Of Singapore’s 100 most traded stocks in 2020, healthcare supply stocks have again started 4Q20 as the strongest contingent of stocks, with Medtecs International, UG Healthcare, iX Biopharma, Sri Trang Agro, Riverstone and Top Glove Corp averaging 17% total returns.
Effective 19 October, CapitaLand Commercial Trust will be deleted from the STI in preparation for its merger with CapitaLand Mall Trust. Keppel DC REIT, the largest stock on the STI Reserve List (as at 14 Oct 2020), is scheduled to join the STI.
Singapore is expected to show signs of a 3Q20 recovery in its highly services-orientated economy from 2Q20 following the lifting of CB Measures. For the remainder of the 2020, the Banks, Real Estate and Industrial Sectors will be large determinants of the STI’s performance which will take cues from both these domestic and external drivers. Since 1985, the STI has averaged a 4% gain in the fourth quarter of the year.
Singapore’s 5 most traded stocks representing the energy sector include Rex International, AusGroup, Interra Resource, China Aviation Oil and Mermaid Maritime decline in-line with Crude Oil prices in September, averaging 10.4% declines for the month.
