Industry reports indicate that Mercuria has chartered Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (SGX:BS6)’s first ever LNG carrier (LNGC). Mercuria is also reportedly the charterer of Yangzijiang’s second LNGC, thus validating the company as China’s first private domestic shipbuilder to construct large LNGCs.

Long-term disruption from a senseless war.

The damage to Qatar’s Ras Laffan LNG facility during the Iran war has resulted in a multi-year disruption to the world’s largest LNG exporting complex. Even if the truce holds and the Straits of Hormuz “reopens” on 19 June as indicated by the US, QatarEnergy has said that Ras Laffan will take two months to get to 80% utilisation and years to fully be restored after extensive damage to its cryogenic heat exchangers at two of its 14 LNG production trains.
