Since the end of 2019, the Health Sector has been the second strongest segment of the global stock market, closely following the performance of the Tech Sector. Singapore’s 10 most traded Health Stocks in the 2020 year to 11 Feb averaged S$26 million a day in combined turnover. The 3 most traded Singapore healthcare-related stocks in the 2020 year to 11 Feb, include Medtecs International, First REIT & UG Healthcare.
Amongst the 50 most traded SGX-listed stocks of 2020 through to 7 Feb, four Real Estate stocks were amongst the 5 strongest performers - Keppel DC REIT, Mapletree Logistics Trust, Ascendas REIT and Manulife REIT. Singapore Government has announced publicly-listed developers with substantial Singapore connections can apply to be QC-exempted. In reaction, on Friday, City Dev opened +1.8%, UOL opened +1.0% and Bukit Sembawang +1.3% before broad afternoon declines weighed the trio.
Among at least 10 industrial trusts listed on SGX, the 3 largest by market cap are: Ascendas REIT, Mapletree Logistics Trust and Mapletree Industrial Trust. For the Dec19 quarter, Ascendas REIT reported the highest DPU of 3.507 cents, followed by Mapletree Industrial Trust with a DPU of 3.16 cents. The trio averaged an 8.8% y-o-y rise in net property income, while gross revenue gained an average 5.3% y-o-y.
In the month of Jan 2020, 16 SGX primary-listed stocks bought back 37 million shares for a total consideration of S$30 million. The Jan buyback consideration tally was led by OCBC, Sembcorp Industries, Silverlake Axis, ST Engineering, Stamford Land Corporation.
The diversified STI index – the most globally recognised market barometer for Singapore – tracks the performance of the 30 largest and most liquid companies listed on SGX. In 2019, the 30 constituents have generated an average total return of 13.1%, bringing their 1Y and 3Y total returns to 4.0% and 19.6% respectively.
Over the 2019 calendar year, the constituents of the iEdge S-REIT Index have averaged a total return of 25.2%, bringing their one-year and three-year total returns to 18.0% and 41.7% respectively. So far, 20 constituents have already reported their earnings for the quarter/full-year ended 31 December 2019. Another 15 REITs are scheduled to unveil their Dec quarter results over the next 3 weeks.
Singapore’s 50 most actively traded stocks of early 2020 averaged a 2% return over the first 12 sessions of January, with performances led by AusGroup, Keppel DC REIT, Mapletree Industrial Trust, CapitaLand Commercial Trust and AEM Holdings.
Wilmar, Japfa and Golden-Agri have led Singapore’s 10 most traded Agriculture, Food and Beverage stocks for the first eight sessions of 2020. The 10 stocks averaged 13% total returns in 2019, with their median return at 17% outpacing regional and global peers. Sheng Siong Group, Koufu Group, SATS and First Resources all report at least four-fifths of their revenue to Singapore. The four stocks saw S$88 million in net institutional inflow in 2019, with average/median total returns of 22%/23%.
10 Energy-related stocks ranked amongst Singapore’s most traded 200 stocks of 2019, generating a median total return of 23% for the year. The 10 Energy-related stocks also saw 40% median volatility in 2019, with the second-best performer of the group in 2019, Interra, seeing the highest volatility. Rex International and Sunpower Group were also amongst the strongest gainers in 2019.
The Real Estate (ex-REITs) sector was among the top net buy sectors on SGX in Dec 2019, garnering net institutional inflows of S$110.4 million. The real estate developer stocks that saw the highest net institutional inflows in December were CapitaLand (+S$42.4mil), UOL Group (+S$28.6mil) and City Developments (+S$24.0mil).
