Singapore’s 21 most traded non-STI stocks in the 2021 year-to-date have traded S$220 million in turnover a day, 15% of the total turnover of all stocks and trusts listed on SGX. Thomson Medical, iFAST & ISDN led the 21 stocks in the year-to-date.
For 1Q21, there were 37 SGX primary-listed stocks that conducted buybacks over the quarter, with consideration totaling S$134 million. Over the quarter, the Straits Times Index (STI) gained 11.3%, and the buyback consideration represented 0.01 per cent of the S$943.8 billion in market capitalisation of all stocks listed on SGX as of 31 March.
With 3 sessions remaining for the March 2021, the STI has generated an 11.1% price gain year-to-date, outpacing all the major world benchmarks. The 1Q21 quarter is also poised to be the STI’s best start to a calendar year since 2012. As many as 11 of the STI stocks - Jardine Strategic, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, Singapore Airlines, Hongkong Land, Jardine Matheson, CapitaLand, OCBC, Wilmar International, Jardine Cycle & Carriage, DBS and UOB have generated double digit gains in the quarter-to-date.
Singapore’s 10 most traded technology stocks keeping pace with the global trend, averaging a 50% total return since end 2019. The 10 stocks which include AEM, Venture Corporation, UMS, ISDN, Frencken Group, Fu Yu Corporation, CSE Global and Valuetronics have averaged 15% gains in the 2021 year-to-date.
Retail investors have been net sellers of STI stocks in the year-to-date, with Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, SATS, DBS Group, OCBC Bank and Singapore Airlines recipient to the highest net retail outflows proportionate to current market capitalisation. Combined turnover of the 2 STI ETFs is up 88% y-o-y.
The technology unit of Aztech Group (previously listed on SGX) – Aztech Global (SGX:8AZ) provides one-stop design and manufacturing services. With core strengths in R&D, design, engineering and manufacturing, its key products include IoT Devices, Data-communication and LED lighting.
The STI Reserve List are Frasers Logistics & Commercial Trust, Keppel REIT, Suntec REIT, Frasers Centrepoint Trust and NetLink NBN Trust. Should the Jardine Strategic amalgamation resolution be approved at the EGM, the STI Reserve stock with the highest market cap at the close two days prior to the Index deletion of Jardine Strategic will join the STI.
Singapore’s 5 most traded technology stocks – AEM, Venture Corp, UMS, ISDN and Nanofilm Technologies have averaged 16% gains in the 2020 year-to-date, bringing their 12-month average total return to 87%.
In February, 17 SGX primary-listed stocks bought back 23 million shares for a total consideration of S$49.7 million. The February buyback consideration tally was led by Wilmar International, Keppel Corporation, Singapore Technologies Engineering, which accounted for 85% of the S$49.7 million consideration.
Among the 200 most traded stocks on SGX, there are 7 stocks whose businesses include plantations, with products used for food. These stocks include Wilmar International, Golden Agri-Resources, First Resources, Sri Trang Agro-Industry, Olam International, Bumitama Agri and Del Monte Pacific. These 7 stocks averaged 25% gains in the 2021 year-to-date.
