Since 31 October, Brent Crude Oil has surged 55% to US$59/bbl, while Singapore’s 5 most traded energy stocks, Rex International, Rex International, China Aviation Oil, Geo Energy Resources, AnAn International and BlackGold Natural Resources averaged 32% gains over the period.
The 30 most traded Singapore-listed stocks with manufacturing-related activities include Wilmar International, Thai Beverage, Sembcorp Marine, AEM Holdings, ISDN Holdings and Medtecs International. Food producers such as Japfa and SATS are also included amongst the Group. The group also includes China-based stocks such as Catalist-listed Jiutian Chemical Group and Mainboard-listed Sunpower Group.
In 2020, Medtecs International, Top Glove, Riverstone and UG Healthcare ranked among top 50 stocks by turnover, with anecdotal evidence suggesting that half of that turnover was contributed by retail investors. and continued to be so ranked in early 2021. These stocks averaged 18% returns for Jan 2021. Following the last rebalance, the largest weights of the iEdge SG All Healthcare are Haw Par, Raffles Medical, Parkway Life REIT, IHH Healthcare and Top Glove.
In January 2021, 20 SGX primary-listed stocks bought back 30 million shares for a total consideration of S$12.45 million. The January buyback consideration tally was led Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, Avarga, OUE, Global Investments and Wilmar International.
The STI added 2.1% in January, taking its 3-month price return to 19.8%, with dividend distributions boosting the 3-month total return to 20.2%. The strongest of the 30 STI stocks in January included Wilmar International, HongKong Land and Thai Beverage. DBS, OCBC and UOB led the net institutional inflows of Singapore-listed stocks in January, with S$214 million of inflows.
The strongest of the Growth stocks in the 2021 year-to-date were AEM (SGX:AWX) and UMS (SGX:558) averaging a 20% gain on S$40mil of net institutional inflow, while the strongest Value stock was Golden Agri-Resources (SGX:E5H) with a 23% gain on S$7mil of net institutional inflow.
During 2020, trusts that represent the S-REIT Sector raised S$3.0 billion in placements, while 5 trusts raised S$1.5 billion in rights issues. At the end of 2020, the combined market capitalisation of the S-REIT Sector stood at S$107 billion.
The 2020 buyback consideration was led by STI stocks DBS Group Holdings, Wilmar International, Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (Holdings) and Singapore Technologies Engineering.
Of Singapore’s 50 most traded stocks in 2020, 12 stocks saw their 2020 trading activity more than double from 2019 levels. UG Healthcare and Medtecs Internatinal generated exponential returns. Top Glove, Riverstone, Keppel DC REIT, Sheng Siong, Wilmar International, Mapletree Industrial Trust and UMS were also generating positive returns in 2020, while Singapore Airlines, SATS and CapitaLand Retail China Trust the three decliners.
Market participants have ushered in the first session of 2021 with 8% average gains for Singapore’s 3 newest SGX Mainboard-listed stocks – GHY Culture & Media, Credit Bureau Asia and Nanofilm Technologies International. oday’s gains brought the trio’s average returns since their respective debuts to 49%.
