Portfolio Updates (November 2020)
November turns out to be a busy month with so many events happening around the world. The biggest news was that Biden won the US Presidential election, and stock market breathed a sigh of relief as Republicans likely gain the senate majority, making the prospect of Biden’s tax hike unlikely.   Also global markets gotten another boost when the news of the major development of Covid 19 broke during premarket hours, expect for tech stocks went on a steep selloff . While investors cheer for a vaccine breakthrough, my stock portfolio performance had been lukewarm at best, as many of my SG portfolio gains were offset by drop in tech stocks. Nevertheless, my portfolio is still in the green with 15.78% (XIRR) returns YTD. Whereas on the east side, Jack Ma’s blunt China’s bank talk

Sasseur REIT Taps Aspirations of China’s Middle Class
Through his diverse career spanning more than three decades, engineer by training Anthony Ang has always tried to define success on his own terms. One dictum that resonates with him is the warning inherent in American Catholic monk and author Thomas Merton’s observation: “People may spend their whole lives climbing the ladder of success only to find, once they reach the top, that the ladder is leaning against the wrong wall.” “I wouldn’t want to try and prescribe the best definition of success, but many who have gone before have suggested that success and happiness do not generally consist of only having material wealth and status, but also of possessing the right values and goals in life,” said the CEO of the manager of SGX-listed Sasseur REIT. One of Ang’s role models is A

S-REIT Report Card: Here’s How Singapore REITs Performed In Third Quarter 2020
Apart from just manoeuvring an economic downturn in 2020, everyone is also combating a very real health threat. The combination of this has also led to major disruptions in the way we live, work and play, accelerating economic trends that should have been years in the making. Along with this, the properties – including REITs – that enable us to live, work and play have all been impacted. In the short term, volatility may spark sharp rises and dips in market prices, in the longer-term, some types of properties may become less relevant entirely. In our REITs Report Card, which we publish each quarter, we look at how S-REITs have performed as a whole and individually. How Have Singapore REITs Fared In The YTD 2020? The iEdge S-REIT Index is a free-float market capitalisation weighted inde

Eagle Hospitality Trust CFO Suddenly Quit Less Than One Year On The Job For Personal Reasons
On 3rd March 2020 (Tuesday), Eagle Hospitality Trust (“EHT”) suddenly announced that its Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”), Fred Chee, has resigned for personal reasons. This does not bode well for EHT and lead to continued mass selling of units by many skeptical investors despite the announcement asserting that Fred Chee is leaving due to personal reasons. The leaving of a CFO is normally bad news for a business entity, especially when Fred Chee just joined EHT on 28 June 2019 and quit in just 8 short months. This is simply a public relation nightmare for EHT.Extract from Announcement on 3rd March 20201.   The CFO is leaving due to “personal reasons”. When an announcement states that a CFO is leaving due to “personal reasons”, it may be really nothing but the truth

Portfolio Review - My REIT performance
So the long awaited black swan, in the form of the invisible coronavirus, has finally arrives... The event this year is unprecedented.  How could we ever imagine such things as cross-border travel and businesses would come to almost a complete halt? I have been through the Lehman brothers' crash, although my portfolio was very much smaller at that time.  My REIT counters accounted for almost half of my portfolio this time, and it is time to do a review on their performace so far.1. COVID 19 - My Thoughts on SREITs Selection
Now, all of us should aware that government had announced for a lot workplaces to be closed on Tuesday and school to closed on Wednesday until 4th May. There are quite some numbers of companies are exempted though. From what I see, this closure is more on retail and office instead of industry and logistics.Extracted from Ministry of Trade & Industry Facebook PageDue to this COVID-19, hospitality REITs get the first impact, people couldn't travel due to travel restrictions imposed by different countries. This followed by retail REITs which affected due to tourism, social distancing and now closure of non-essential services. Office REIT would be affected too, though some can be mitigate with "work from home" practice. If this situation continue, eventually industrial and logistics w

Personal & Portfolio Update
Hi!It’s been so long since I blogged! Since my last post, I kept telling myself I should start blogging soon but procrastinated about it all the time and 1.5 years like passed like that. Part of the reason why I stopped blogging for awhile was that I committed most of my days at work, including many weekends and I just wanted to do nothing when I reach home and just wanted some rest.Though I stopped blogging for awhile, I regularly kept myself updated on the stock market: particularly in SG, HK and US, but lacked time to do research on individual stocks. (more macro then micro) I have been watching the HK updates like weather report these days, since I loved HK and it's my favourite holiday destination with no jet lag and good food. Another reason why I have been keeping up with the
